Classical ballet instructors with a proven commitment to teaching students from diverse backgrounds are invited to attend a free event series hosted by Ballet Lubbock on Friday, October 11 and Saturday, October 12.
The weekend begins with a Meet + Greet for teachers and School of American Ballet faculty and staff on Friday evening, followed by a day-long event including master classes for dancers ages 12-18 and workshops for teachers led by School of American Ballet faculty member Katrina Killian.
In these workshops, teachers and students will be introduced to the Balanchine style and the approach to training dancers at SAB. Teachers will also learn more about the School of American Ballet’s training programs and the National Visiting Fellows Program.

Student Requirements for School of American Ballet Workshop at Ballet Lubbock
- A minimum of four (4) years of strong, consistent ballet technique training
- A minimum of one (1) year of strong, consistent pointe technique training, if applicable
- An excellent understanding of ballet terminology, vocabulary, and concepts
- A clear sense of alignment, center control, flexibility and strength
- A strong sense of musicality and the ability to assimilate corrections
- A strong understanding of human anatomy
- A high level of concentration, energy and confidence when executing movement
- A high effort of professionalism by arriving to class on time, dressing properly, and being prepared to dance
