At Ballet Lubbock, our mission extends far beyond the walls of our studios. Through our In Our Community programs, we’re dedicated to making dance accessible, inclusive, and part of everyday life in the South Plains.
Dancing Where Life Happens
Not everyone can make it to the barre — so we bring the barre to them. Our Community Classes take place in parks, plazas, and public spaces across Lubbock. Each summer, Ballet in the Park invites people of all ages and backgrounds to move, stretch, and dance together under the West Texas sky — no experience required, just an open heart and a pair of comfortable shoes.
Throughout the year, we partner with other local dance organizations for Community Dance Days, celebrating the rich diversity of movement styles and voices that make up our city. Whether you’re discovering dance for the first time or reconnecting with a childhood passion, these events are built for joy and community.
Performances for Everyone
Art is meant to be shared — and thanks to the generosity of our sponsors and donors, Ballet Lubbock donates over 6,000 performance tickets each year to individuals and families who might not otherwise have the opportunity to experience a live ballet.
Our outreach performances of The Nutcracker and our Spring Performance are designed for schoolchildren and adults with special needs, offering a welcoming space to enjoy world-class ballet and a full live orchestra — often for the very first time. The smiles, gasps, and spontaneous applause say it all: this is more than a performance. It’s a memory that lasts a lifetime.
Each year, we also partner with a local school district to welcome over 2,400 fourth graders to a free performance of The Nutcracker. Students receive a Nutcracker Study Guide ahead of the show, filled with plot summaries, classroom tie-ins, and fun facts to spark curiosity and connect dance to their everyday learning.
From city parks to concert halls, Ballet Lubbock is proud to be part of the rhythm of our community. With every free class, every outreach performance, and every child who sees themselves reflected onstage, we move closer to a world where the arts truly belong to everyone.
