At Ballet Lubbock, we believe that dance is more than movement – it’s a language of confidence, discipline, and joy. That belief fuels our Dance Connect program, which brings the art of dance directly into Lubbock’s elementary schools in partnership with Communities in Schools (CIS).
Each week, over 600 boys and girls in grades 3 through 5 experience the power of movement through Dance Connect. These free, in-school and after-school classes are currently offered in 22 schools – and that number keeps growing. Students explore ballet, creative movement, and rhythm in an environment designed to build physical coordination, self-expression, and trust.
Dance Connect is about more than just technique. It’s about meeting students where they are — literally and figuratively – and providing a consistent, positive outlet within the school day. It’s about showing children that they are seen, capable, and supported.
Students who show interest and commitment are invited to audition for Community Youth Ballet, a weekly ballet class held at Ballet Lubbock’s state-of-the-art studios. Like Dance Connect, Community Youth Ballet is completely free of charge. It’s our way of extending the invitation to keep dancing – and keep dreaming.
We’re proud of the work Dance Connect is doing, and even prouder of the students who bring their full selves to each class. As we continue to expand into more schools, our mission remains the same: to make dance accessible, empowering, and transformative – one plié at a time.
